As I had been living in Lisbon for more than a year I had explored a lot of different places in the city of the seven hills, and I know a lot of her little secrets. I had never got bored in this city, there are really tons of things to do and for all the tastes. For my part, I liked getting lost in the streets and explore the small alleys of the Alfama and It has led me to many unexpected and unknown places. Here are my 5 secrets spots of Lisbon.
1-Miradouro da Graça
This point of view is located just a little further from the Alfama and overhangs a great part of Lisbon and the Martim Moniz’s square. This is a really nice shaded place situated on the main square of Graça. You can sit and enjoy the view by day and take nice pictures. You can also have a drink if you wish to. The district of Graça offers you choice for having a drink or having something to eat By the way, I discovered my favorite brunch restaurant in this area. And if you are lucky to be in Lisbon in June (the most animated period of the city due to the “
2-Rua da Bica
This is a street where you can catch and photograph the famous “
3-Campo de Ourique
I had been living in this nice district of Lisbon during almost my entire year there and I absolutely don’t regret. It is really typical of Portuguese life, not only because of the colorful buildings and the tram but there is a quiet and familiar atmosphere. You can appreciate a basic Portuguese afternoon there. To get to this area you can take the famous tram 28 but hang on! It’s shaking in the streets of Alfama. You can go out of the tram at Estrella where there is, the “Basilica da Estrella” it worth a look. Moreover, there is a great parc just in front of the church where you can enjoy a shaded walk accompanied by all the ducks that geese that wander freely in the parc and in the small pond.
You can also enjoy a fresh drink or ice cream in the little kiosk situated in the middle of the park. I also recommend you to take a walk in the streets to admire the earthenware houses. You can eat typical and good food in the market of Campo de Ourique. By the way, it is the best food market in the city
4- The panoramic view of Monsanto
This place is a former panoramic abandoned restaurant that offers a superb view from the top of its third floor. The exterior does not necessarily inspire, however, the interior is surprising. It is covered with street art and the view over the April 25 bridge and Christ is superb. It is an atypical place to visit in the middle of Monsanto Park, where you can take beautiful pix. You can also relax with your friends over a beer (which you bring yourself) in front of a superb view. I very much appreciate this kind of atypical place that Lisbon offers us and which is unknown to most tourists. Fashion shoots are regularly held in this place for its uniqueness. There is a bus to get there and you will need to walk around 15 minutes in Monsanto park. It is better to bring google maps because it is not indicated at all.
5- Gardens of the Palace of the marquises de Fronteira
Located in the Benfica district of Lisbon, this palace is known for its magnificent gardens. There are also basins in faience with swans, which is what makes this place so charming. If you are a fan of photos, this romantic place will make you happy and you can do a great photo shoot. By the way, a lot of wedding take place there for the romantic atmosphere that inspires the place. And if you like history, there are guided tours also. The entry is charged and you can only access it at certain times so it is better to check their website before making the trip.
Here are my 5 favorite places unknown from most of tourists, hope you will enjoy it as much as I do this beautiful city, and have fun!!
